The Need for Digitization in Healthcare Professional Engagement

Appian World 2019 was packed with many exciting presentations on digital innovation across all industries and business processes.

In life sciences, we heard from many customers on their personal journeys from struggling with disjointed and heavily manual operations, to seeking digitization for their pain points, and ultimately the success they found utilizing an impactful platform.

One particularly interesting mention was from Appian’s co-founder and CEO Matt Calkins. While diving into some of the incredible processes being built on Appian’s platform, he highlighted a digitized solution that PwC has created for healthcare professional (HCP) engagement.

This is an area of life sciences that many find difficult to navigate. In order for organizations to execute their commercial and scientific strategies, and enhance their capabilities to better serve patients’ needs, they must interact closely with HCPs. However, many regulations are at play in these interactions, and therefore life sciences has traditionally had to operate manually within disjointed systems to ensure compliance. This type of process execution creates a strain on both life sciences users and HCPs.

“HCPs increasingly prefer digital modes of interaction, and pharmaceuticals firms need to be aware of these preferences in order to better understand and serve them.”

To meet these expectations, some life sciences organizations have implemented point solutions to solve these challenges. Yet, in these instances, the previous challenges of compliance, process unification, transparency, and collaboration still persist. A lack of end-to-end visibility, clear connected processes, and flexibility to adapt to changing business environments, creates risk for organizations.

The HCP engagement solution built on Appian’s low-code platform is different. It can establish enterprise-wide transparency, integrate easily with existing legacy systems, provide enhanced collaboration capabilities, and ensure compliance to avoid unnecessary fines.

The Benefits of a Low-Code Platform

Implementing Appian’s low-code platform will result in:

  • Proactive Compliance: Systematic, preventative controls enable consistent and compliant execution of funding requests and HCP interactions, globally
  • Business Efficiency & Quality: Increased resource efficiency through automated and streamlined processes with improved data analytics and dashboarding capabilities
  • Enhanced HCP Experience: Simplified interactions and reduced touchpoints with HCPs resulting in a better user experience and increased focus on driving strategic value in the HCP partnership.
