In retrospect, 2020 was a year of unprecedented change. Noone could have foreseen what the last 12 months would bring. But in Europe and the Middle East, we've adapted to make the most of the situation, building solutions to help our customers keep their customers and staff safe and engaged. Here's a recap of our top 10 moments from a year like no other:

  1. Appian Robotic Process Automation was born

January saw Appian acquire Novayre and their Jidoka RPA tool to create an RPA Centre of Excellence in Seville, Spain. The acquisition set the tone for a year of enabling hyperautomation: unifying humans, bots and artificial intelligence on one comprehensive low-code platform.

  2. COVID-19 solutions built and deployed at lightning speed

Just weeks into the global pandemic, Appian developed two solutions to help businesses and educational institutions keep their staff, customers and students safe. Workforce Safety equips employers with data to manage the safe return of their employees to work onsite. In a similar vein, Campus Pass manages the return of students and educators to life on campus.

  3. Customers trusted Appian to help them stay agile

From automating over 100 processes with Deloitte Robotics and transforming the UK's prisons services with Serco, to reducing decision-making processes that took weeks down to just hours with Abdul Latif Jameel, 2020 saw more of our customers telling their Appian stories.

  4. Forrester ranked Appian a leader in the insurance agency portals space

Appian was identified as a Leader in the Forrester Waveô: Insurance Agency Portals, Q3 2020 report, receiving the highest scores in the Strategy and Current Offering categories. Forrester noted: "Appian is a good fit for global insurers that are looking to quickly provide their agencies with enhanced omnichannel capabilities, advanced analytics, recommendation engines, and intelligent automation."

  5. The AppianEUROPE community gathered virtually, for the first time

Held live and on-demand, AppianEUROPE went virtual, giving every attendee the best seat in the house to hear from Appian experts, partners and customers about the latest advances in low-code development and process automation technology. The virtual event featured customer speakers from Santander, KONE, Poste Italiane and more.

  6. Launched Connected Claims for insurers

Designed to reduce the operational complexity of insurance claims, Appian Connected Claims delivers real-time visibility over data from an insurer's existing systems and databases to create a single view of the customer and the claim. The result? Claims settled faster and a superior customer experience, while reducing the cost of processing.

  7. Appian named a Leader in Gartner Low-Code Magic Quadrant - again

For the second year running, Appian was named a leader in Gartner's evaluation of 18 best-known low-code application platforms. By providing a single interface that unifies data, process, people and the digital workforce, Appian helps organizations improve digital innovation and optimize business outcomes.

  8. Hyperautomation was published

A definitive collection of essays from academics, analysts, implementers and end-users, Hyperautomation brings together leading perspectives on aspects of enterprise low-code and automation. Europe-based contributors include IDC's Neil Ward-Dutton, fintech expert Chris Skinner, and Darren Blake from UK customer Bexley Health Neighbourhood Care.

  9. Cloud subscription revenue increased 40% year-over-year

Appian's third-quarter earnings results showed that "organizations are choosing Appian to transform their critical processes. Low-code and automation in a single platform is proving to be a winning combination," said Matt Calkins, CEO & Founder.

  10. Appian introduced the first unified platform for hyperautomation

Rounding off the year, Appian released the latest version of our low-code automation platform. New enhancements include: rapid process and task automation with low-code RPA, form and paper automation with native intelligent document processing (IDP), integrate and build applications without migrating data, and 360-degree application health dashboards for developers.
