Appian Announces Significant Growth in 2009
67 Percent Increase in License Revenues Driven by Technology Innovation, Community Development and Partner Expansion
RESTON, Va.—January 26, 2010— Appian, the global innovator in enterprise and on-demand business process management (BPM) technology, today announced that 2009 performance was the strongest in company history. Appian saw a 67 percent increase in software license revenues, a 59 percent increase in international revenues, and a 112 percent increase in the number of new customers over 2008. As organizations continued to grapple with the uncertain economy, companies and government agencies around the globe turned to the Appian BPM Suite to deliver crucial cost-savings and productivity increases. To help meet this demand, Appian signed 6 major OEM relationships in 2009.Appian’s 2009 success was driven by its ability to deliver the fastest time-to-value for process improvement initiatives. This BPM acceleration was supported by significant enhancements in Appian’s technology and services offerings, as well as by development of the Appian FORUM online community. Appian Anywhere, the most widely-used complete Software-as-a-Service BPM platform continued to attract customers from around the globe looking to jump-start their BPM projects.
Global Customer Growth
Appian’s new-customer acquisition represents growth in markets around the world. New North American customers in 2009 included Adesta, Adnovate, Breckinridge Capital, Canadian Institute for Health Management, Chicago Mercantile Exchange, Epana Networks, Exerton, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Steel & Pipe Supply, THK America, Vertical Management Systems, and others. Sales in Europe, Australia, the Middle East and South-East Asia all contributed to Appian’s strong international growth. International revenue now represents nearly 30 percent of Appian’s annual revenue. New international customers in 2009 included Bank al Jazira, Best Deal Insurance, CIGNA Life Insurance New Zealand Limited, EFG Financial Products, Groupo ICA, Jordan Dubai Capital, Lend Lease, MBGE Intersistemas, psHealth, Pinnacle People, Piraeus Bank, Target Group LTD., Telware S.A. de C.V., Termigas Bergamo, Wray and Nephew, Wyeth Labs, Yong Tai Real Estate and others.
In addition, Appian received significant add-on orders from existing clients such as the US Army, FEMA, Nokia Siemens Networks and others.
Technology & Services Innovation
In 2H 2009, Appian delivered Appian 6, the industry’s fastest-to-deploy, easiest-to-use and most powerful BPM Suite. Appian 6 accelerates process improvement through a complete BPM suite that delivers rich collaboration, rapid application development, a real-time process architecture and flexible deployment models. In combination with the Appian Professional Services BPM Framework, Appian 6 provides the fastest way to deploy robust process applications.
In October, 2009, Appian hosted Appian FORUM09, the largest in-person BPM vendor event of the year with more than 350 registrants from the US, Europe, Asia/Pacific and Latin America. Such attendance in a year of constrained resources and restricted corporate travel demonstrated the commitment and passion of the global Appian customer and partner community.
Appian also extended that community online. The Appian Forum online network provides access to hundreds of Application and Process Templates, Product Extensions, Libraries and other shared components, as well as an extensive knowledge-base. By facilitating collaboration and knowledge-sharing among the thousands of Appian BPM practitioners around the world, Appian Forum accelerates the time to value for process improvement initiatives. At the FORUM09 conference, Appian announced the availability of 25 new Appian-developed BPM Application Templates available for free download. Appian Forum is fully available to customers using either Appian’s enterprise BPM Suite, or Appian Anywhere.

KMWorld Magazine named the Appian BPM Suite a “Trend-Setting Product for 2009.” Appian customer Nokia Siemens Networks was named a finalist in the Gartner BPM Excellence Awards and a Gold Winner in the WfMC’s 2009 Global Awards for Excellence in BPM & Workflow.
