Browse, Update and Take Action on Data from Any Enterprise System Through a Single Social Interface

Reston, Va.— August 12, 2013 —Appian, the market leader in modern business process management (BPM) software, today announced that BayernLB, one of the largest banks in Germany, has deployed its first process application on the Appian BPM Suite platform. The deployment utilises Appian’s worksocial capabilities, a unique combination of work automation and social collaboration innovation, to improve BayernLB’s vendor management process for procurement. BayernLB plans to extend its use of the Appian platform for additional core banking processes, as well as for application consolidation, in subsequent deployments.

“Appian worksocial gives us a single platform for easy visibility and rapid action across key business processes,” said Christian Söhn, Head of IT, at BayernLB. “The simple social interface combines structured work and enterprise data with ad hoc collaboration to give us a truly modern solution for vendor management.”

BayernLB is one of the leading commercial banks for large and Mittelstand customers in Germany and a strong, regionally focused corporate and real estate financier with a balanced risk profile. As a member of the Sparkassen Finanzgruppe, BayernLB offers its close partners, the savings banks, a wide range of products while also acting as central bank within the Association. The Bank serves its retail customers mostly through its subsidiary DKB.

The organisation’s processes and systems for vendor management presented a host of challenges. They were largely paper- and email-based and caused internally a huge consulting effort to manage the strict governance and compliance regulations. The Appian BPM Suite platform allows BayernLB to meet a number of governance regulations in a more efficient, more user-friendly and intuitive way, which reduces immensely the volume of paperwork, as well as the need for additional clarification.

Appian helps BayernLB respond quickly to changes regarding governance requirements and policies, and gives real-time visibility into status of all instances. BayernLB is pleased with Appian’s flexibility, zero-coding environment, agile and rapid development, and its user-friendly interface. BayernLB’s use of Appian is not intended for implementing a hand full of processes. Appian has become a strategic asset for BayerLB IT, and the company is moving forward with a second, core banking process. Appian’s social business interface and its advantages of immediate collaboration and action around all transactions will be highlighted in coming Appian deployments.

“All around the world, new work patterns are emerging based in social and mobile computing, and these must be taken into account when modernizing business processes,” said Justin Thomas, Managing Director, Appian Europe Limited. “Appian grounds social business and enterprise mobility in the core processes, systems and data that drive an organisation.”
