TELUS: Delivering 5G technology to over 10M subscribers with Appian

Business Problem

Keeping the customer at the forefront of everything they do, TELUS set out on a journey of technological innovation that would support their launch of 5G technology to their 10 million subscribers in a rapid, agile, and scalable way. In 2018, TELUS performed an internal audit on all digital systems and tools to evaluate whether or not their existing systems would support their evolution toward 5G. This evolution was dependent on 3 key technological enablers: Scalability, Efficiency, and Connectivity.

TELUS needed a platform that could accommodate and support rapid growth. The launch of 5G was expected to bring with it 10x the volume of activities previously managed. The technology used to support the launch needed to be flexible and agile. The implementation also needed to be achieved at 10x efficiency in terms of resources, time spent, and financial investment.

Appian Solution

With Appian, TELUS developed Maestro, an end-to-end workflow management tool for the automation and maintenance of all build activities surrounding the 5G network. Today, around 10,000 business activities flow through the Maestro platform, and 11 legacy and external systems will be integrated upon project completion. With the creation and implementation of Maestro, TELUS was able to substantially simplify their digital landscape, collapsing 5+ legacy, homegrown applications into one cohesive platform. In Maestro, users are able to rapidly develop tools 10x faster than with traditional methods.
