Process management can have transformative impact on companies

Business process management, from a conceptual perspective, has the potential to disrupt enterprise operations in the best ways possible. This is especially true when BPM ideals are coupled with process automation and orchestration technologies. The end result is an application setup that streamlines process completion and positions business leaders to flexibly adjust process strategies in light of changing demands. According to a recent report from The Gleaner, process-improvement efforts have emerged as a key need in many organizations, especially in the tight economy.

Process management basics

The news source explained that, at its core, process management principles are fairly simple because most businesses have a relatively small number of core processes. There may be many functions surrounding those process, but the primary operations are generally fairly simple. That does not, however, mean that it is easy to manage those processes. Instead, the small number of core processes often leaves organizations mired in a difficult situation in which it is extremely difficult to make procedural changes without adversely disrupting core processes. BPM principles change this by positioning organizations to continually refine and adjust their processes without having a negative impact on productivity.

The report explained there are usually four key steps involved in improving an organization's process management capabilities - establishing process ownership, launching process teams, defining core processes and measuring, improving and automating processes. These steps resolve a core underlying problem that companies face when trying to improve operations - siloed business departments. While core processes are generally few in number, they often require collaboration between workers in different departments. The end result is a situation in which process completion gets held up by workers in different departments that have different priorities.

According to the news source, following the four key stages of business process management improvement can establish a foundation for a BPM framework that streamlines operations and improves the customer experience by improving internal process functionality.

Making meaningful process improvements

BPM software is a key consideration for organizations that want to optimize their core processes. Companies are becoming more dependent on technology all the time, and while emerging solutions can be extraordinarily useful to businesses, they can also create considerable process disruption. A modern BPM software can unlock the full potential of BPM solutions and help organizations in sectors ranging from government to pharma and the enterprise get the job done more effectively.
