Enterprise mobility strategies are rising, putting businesses in a situation in which they need to use business process management strategies to find better ways to align work operations with mobile technologies. This transition is already underway and the time may have come for businesses of all sizes to truly embrace the potential that BPM brings to the mobile workforce.

According to the recent Good Technology Mobility Index for the second quarter of 2014, mobile device use has been evolving in the enterprise sector, with many businesses beginning to use mobile devices and applications in much more mature ways. At this point, many businesses have begun to use secure mobile applications to handle critical and sensitive data. In particular, moving these types of data between users through instant messaging and other applications is becoming more important.

Looking at how organizations are using mobile devices

The Android operating system is rising in the enterprise, but what may be more telling is the way application activations are increasing. The study found that application activations increased by approximately 20 percent from the previous quarter during Q2 2014. Furthermore, many organizations are showing that they are willing to adjust applications based on their specific operational requirements. Custom application activation increased by 25 percent quarter over quarter during the period of the study.

According to the news source, business intelligence and customer relationship management are the most prolific types of solutions being deployed on mobile devices, but instant messaging solutions are also a prominent part of the enterprise mobility landscape. In many cases, these new application investments come as organizations work to change their operations around what mobile workers can accomplish instead of focusing on apps that center around the desktop computing experience.

Mobile BPM solutions play a key part in helping take the application functionality created by smartphones and tablets and ensuring those capabilities are leveraged for maximum success.

Understanding the importance of mobile BPM

Process management software is built around the idea of aligning processes with how users work. If more employees are using smartphones and tablets, processes need to be quickly altered and possibly automated accordingly. However, those improvements need to be made in such a way that desktop-based users aren't left behind. BPM software providers the combination of automation functionality, easy deployment and flexibility needed to create a unified technical architecture behind processes, ensuring operations can be pass smoothly between users regardless of which device they are working with.
