President’s Management Agenda – Accelerating Public Sector Innovation
The President’s Management Agenda was recently released, and with it an ambitious set of initiatives to address many of the government’s longstanding management weaknesses. Among them is an information technology modernization initiative intended to replace legacy technology with state-of-the-art systems.
More specifically, the President’s Management Agenda also lays out a long-term vision for modernizing the Federal Government in key areas that will improve the ability of agencies to deliver mission critical outcomes, provide improved constituent service, and effectively steward taxpayer dollars on behalf of the American people. This is directly tied to the program’s mission:
“The American people count on the Federal Government every day, from national security to infrastructure to food and water safety. Public servants must be accountable for mission-driven results but must also have the necessary tools and resources to deliver.”
Each of these key areas have distinct technology angles, including modernizing the government’s aging infrastructure, using data to make better decisions and ensure transparency, and rethinking the federal workforce, both in how employees are trained and where jobs can be automated.
“In the private sector…we’re talking about robotics and business process automation and I was really surprised at how little that conversation was happening in government,” Margaret Weichert, deputy director for management at the Office of Management and Budget, said during a recent event introducing the agenda.
There’s no doubt that IT modernization is essential to reducing costs, improving security and optimizing outcomes. And with this dedicated IT modernization push underway within the federal government, the challenge for agencies will not only be to upgrade technology but also to sustain digital transformation for the long-term.
However, because of the speed at which technology evolves, recent modernization efforts have been quickly deemed outdated due to the lagging production times within the development environments. Government agencies no longer have to deal with this reality.
High-Speed IT Modernization
Beyond just the ability to expedite development of high-performing modern applications, the Appian platform itself can break the cyclical IT modernization pattern experienced by government organizations, that tend to lead to extended timelines that go over budget. This platform will facilitate continuous and perpetual evolution of applications and permanently shield them from becoming obsolete and costly.
And with the release of the President’s Management Agenda, the time has never been better for Federal agencies to digitally transform their approach to mission delivery. Visit our Federal resource center to learn how your agency can harness the power of the Appian platform to uncover strategies for high-speed, cost-effective IT modernization that fit your specific organization demands.
