A BPM suite is a technology platform for the design, documentation and capture of business processes.

There are four main phases of activity within a BPM Suite:

    • Design Phase - document and capture processes in a modeling environment - create forms and UI for end users, define rules and define data

    • Execution phase - execute processes in a run time process engine, integrate with systems, execute rules

    • Manage phase - handle exceptions in the process, track status of process in real time, manage task workload, re-route process flows as needed

    • Optimize phase - aggregate past performance, identify bottlenecks, create executive dashboards operational and business performance indicators

A BPM suite must be a single platform to handle entire BPM life cycle. In past 5-10 years, BPM suite technology has really ramped up.

The BPM landscape has evolved to include recent technologies such as enterprise mobility and social collaboration as well as SOA.

Who should be involved with a BPM Suite?

- Business analysts - define processes, define rules, create reports, manage process flow, analyze performance and optimize processes

- IT developers and administrators - create shared services, create re-usable integrations, review process models prior to publishing, manage server performance

- Workers and managers - create personal reports, complete assigned tasks, collaborate with other users, share documents, re-route tasks

Why BPM Suite - Structured process, central content repository, integrated systems, real-time visibility into processes, tasks etc.
