Appian went across the pond last week and made a splash at two events. The User Group Meeting in the UK provided opportunities for attendees to network with other Appian professionals, share best practices, and learn tips that will accelerate their organization's BPM program. The Partner Forum in Frankfurt focused on topics that are key to partner success in EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa), with welcome remarks by Appian's new Managing Director in Germany, Dirk Pohla.

The EMEA User Group Meeting took place at the posh Haymarket Hotel in Soho, London, on Tuesday, October 15th. The eventful all-day agenda featured executives from Appian, clients, and Ovum analyst, complete with two tea servings during networking breaks.

After welcome remarks and global update from Appian executives, Kevin Dalley shared his Appian BPM journey. He is the IT Director at Punch Taverns, one of the largest pub companies in the UK with £1,283 million in revenue. In just a few months, Kevin and his team implemented an Appian application, which reduced the company's critical business investment process in more than half, from fourteen weeks to just five to six weeks. At the same time, the new enterprise software application improved information qualityand accelerated the time to obtain return on investments (ROI).

Kevin Shelcott, Director of Publishing Services at Archant, a publishing company with four daily newspapers and around fifty magazines, presented a case study on how they use Appian BPM to transform its customer engagement model. Instead of depending on emails, faxes, printed papers, and file systems to manage content and route editorial workflow, they now use a self-service model based on Appian's modern application, saving time and trees.

A customer panel led and moderated by Gary Barnett, OVUM analyst, included participants from Punch Taverns, Hansard, and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to discuss how they are leveraging business process management BPM), cloud computing, mobile applications, social collaboration software, and case management solutions to transform the way they work and engage with customers.

In addition to customer case studies, attendees heard from Matt Brook, Director of International Services, on "Unlocking Project Success with Appian." Malcolm Ross, VP of Product Marketing, also presented to share the latest release and features in Appian 7.3.
