How do I register for Virtual Academy?

On Appian Forum, click Actions > Appian Training application > Training – Register for Coached Academy (Online Training).

How do I register for Classroom Academy?

On Appian Forum, click Actions > Appian Training application > Training – Register for Academy (Classroom Training).

Do I need to have a Forum account to register for training?

Yes, Appian, in conjunction with your company, verifies and approves all Forum registrations.

How do I create an Appian Forum account?

  1. Go to https://forum.appian.com.
  2. Select Register as a New User.
  3. Complete and submit the form.

(Approval may take up to 48 hours)

How do I log in to Virtual Academy?

Visit academy.appian.com to sign in with your Forum username and the password you have already set.

What happens after I register for Classroom Academy?

  1. The Training Department reviews your enrollment request
  2. If the request is approved, you will receive a task on Appian Forum for payment
  3. If the request is denied, you will receive an email from the Training Department
  4. Once payment is confirmed, you will receive a confirmation email with the class details

How long does the registration process take?

Usually your registration will be approved within 24 hours.

When should I expect to receive my confirmation email/course details?

After confirmation of payment, it usually takes about 24 hours to receive your confirmation email.

Are there prerequisites for Appian courses?

Yes. Each course agenda lists the prerequisite and next course recommended.

Cancellation Policy

How many days prior to class start date do I need to notify Appian of a cancellation?

Notification of cancellation must be received at least seven (7) business days prior to the start date of the class. If you don’t show up for class and fail to provide adequate cancellation notice, the entire training fee for that class shall be forfeited. This policy applies to all accepted payment methods.

Appian reserves the right to reschedule any class at its discretion.

Appian also reserves the right to cancel a class at its discretion.

When can I access the course once I’ve paid?

Your course is available as soon as payment is received.


Virtual Academy Information

How can I get access to a training cloud environment?

If you are enrolled in a course that requires a cloud environment, please contact trainers@appian.com.

Is the cloud site a personal environment or will it be shared?

It is your personal environment, only accessible by you, an admin, and the trainer.

How can I contact a Trainer?

You can always contact a trainer at trainers@appian.com.

Where can I find available courses?

You can find courses to enroll in under the Available Courses section of your dashboard.

What if the courses catalog doesn’t list the course I’m looking for?

Email training@appian.com if you cannot find the course you wish to take.

How long do I have to take the course?

All of our courses are available for the duration of the quarter for which you enrolled. Once the session starts, the course is self-paced, so you can complete the modules at your convenience within the start and end dates.

We run a schedule to ensure that we have a dedicated trainer each week to monitor the course and participants, review exercises (course dependent), and assist.

This is subject to change.

What if I need a time extension to complete the course?

We do not provide extensions—please email training@appian.com if you have any questions.

Should I be aware of any system requirements?

Internet Explorer 11, Chrome, or Firefox are recommended for lessons in Virtual Academy. For exercises in the cloud environment, Internet Explorer 9+ is necessary.

How will the courses be provided?

Each lesson has videos with interactive quizzes as well as supplementary exercises. These are self-paced lessons, so you can start and stop at your convenience. While module content is not downloadable, you can go back to the material whenever you want before the course session expires.

What version of Appian will the course content be on?

Content will be based on versions of Appian up to 6 months old, but cloud instances will always be on the newest version of Appian.

Will any additional materials/documentation be provided?

Some courses will include embedded links to our documentation in Forum.

What if I stop in the middle of a module, will I be able to continue where I left off?

You can restart the module where you left off.

Who should I contact if I get stuck in a module?

An administrator is available for system questions or issues throughout the duration of your course. You can contact the admin at trainers@appian.com.

Can I post questions to other students/Appian?

Of course! Feel free to use Forum to post any questions. Our product documentation is also a useful resource.

Do I have to download any software?

Internet Explorer 11, Chrome, or Firefox are recommended for lessons in Virtual Academy. If you are using an Appian cloud environment, you will need Internet Explorer 9+ to run the process modeler.

What does the counter mean on the left hand side (e.g. 3/24)?

The counter marks your progress through the course. You can see how many activities in the course you’ve completed and how many activities you have to complete. The number includes modules, documents to download, exercises, and assessments.

Approximately, how much time will each course take to complete?

It depends on the course, but each module takes 15 – 30 minutes to complete. Exercises vary for different students and different lessons.

What happens once I finish the course?

Congrats! You will always be able to retrieve and print your classroom completion certificate under Menu > My Activities > Courses.

Does my certification of completion ever expire?

No, but Appian content changes every quarter so we recommend refresher courses every 18 months.

How can I see what courses I’ve taken?

Go to My Courses to see the full list of your enrolled courses, both past and current.

I’ve completed the course but the system has not recognized full completion of the course, what should I do?

To troubleshoot, contact your administrator at trainers@appian.com.


Classroom Academy Information

What are the hours for Classroom Academy?

All classes run from 9 AM to 5 PM. Friday usually ends earlier for travelers.

Do you offer course materials?

The Academy Reference guide is provided to students for certain courses. In order to receive the materials, you must attend Classroom Academy.

Location/Accommodation

Where is Appian Headquarters located?

Appian is located in Reston, VA. We are located in the heart of the Reston Town Center at 11955 Democracy Drive, 17th floor.

Where can I find directions and nearby hotel accommodations?

We are located in Reston Town Center. Hyatt is walking distance and has a limited number of preferred rooms—call and mention “Appian” to receive discounts.

No, but Appian content changes every quarter so we recommend refresher courses every 18 months.

Does my credential ever expire?

Credentials expire at 18 months. Renewal requires the successful completion of the current exam.
