Top 10 Pharma Company

This Appian client is one of the ten largest global health care companies with billions in annual sales and tens of thousands of employees. They deliver innovative health solutions across a number of markets.

Business Problem

This Pharma company relied on a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) application to manage processes for compliance with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). But this COTS application had major issues including a lack of transparency into processes, required duplication of effort for health care provider (HCP) entries, manual workarounds, and limited reporting capabilities. This lead to low adherence among users that increased the risk of missteps under FCPA which could lead to a multi-million dollar fine. The application also lacked flexibility to adapt to changing business needs and was expensive to maintain.

Appian BPM Solution

The COTS application was replaced by a custom application created in Appian. The new application is highly flexible so all users can get what they want and are not tempted to work outside the system, decreasing the company’s risk of compliance fines. Our uniform interface and mobile capabilities decreased training time and drove rapid adoption. Duplication of data entry has been eliminated and reporting capabilities are greatly enhanced.

This was the first Appian-based application the company created. Its success generated interest from other parts of the organization and just a year after initial go-live, seven more applications are deployed or under development.
