Business Transformation Agency's Appian-based Acquisition Application Named AKO/DKO "Best BPM Process 2010"

Acquisition/Certification Application Streamlines Procurement Process
RESTON, Va.—September 13, 2010— Appian, the global innovator in enterprise and on-demand business process management (BPM) technology, today announced that Appian customer Business Transformation Agency's (BTA's) Enterprise Planning & Investment (EP&I) Directorate won the top honor for "Best BPM Process" in the Army Knowledge On-Line (AKO)/Defense Knowledge On-Line (DKO) awards. The awards were presented at the 2010 LandWarNet Conference in Tampa, Fla.

The 2010 LandWarNet Conference is the premier forum to bring government and industry together to openly communicate commercial best business practices and government implementations, according to the conference website. It is a collaborative effort between the Army's chief information officer and Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association International.

BTA won top honor for its Acquisition/Certification Process Automation Solution. The application, built on the AKO/DKO platform and developed by Appian professional services consultants under an SAIC contract, has been in use since March 2009. It automates the submission and processing of acquisition and certification requests for systems under review by the Investment Review Board (IRB). Previously, this activity was manual, slow, and error prone. The BPM solution has resulted in two significant benefits:
  • 66% process time reduction
  • Data quality errors reduction from 50.2% (aggregate) to zero
"Government agencies utilizing BPM to support process improvement are seeing transformational value," said Matthew Calkins, president and CEO of Appian. "We are pleased that BTA has received this recognition, and are proud to have played a part in creating this award-winning application."
