RESTON, Va.—August 30, 2010— Appian, a global innovator in enterprise and on-demand business process management (BPM) technology, today announced that it has received an Authority to Operate (ATO) from the U.S. Department of Education for the Department's Appian Anywhere application, which is built on Amazon Web Services.
The Appian Anywhere solution is a cloud-based BPM software solution that has received an ATO from the federal government. The ATO was awarded after a rigorous and comprehensive assessment of the solution's management, operational, and technical security controls. The assessment was performed under the Federal Information Security Act of 2002 (FISMA) framework for managing information security for all information systems used or operated by a U.S. federal government agency or by a contractor or other organization on behalf of a federal agency.
"Amazon Web Services is pleased that the Appian Anywhere solution built on AWS has received an ATO from the Department of Education," said Terry Wise, Director of Business Development, Amazon Web Services LLC. "Government customers can now leverage the scalability, security and utility based pricing model of the AWS cloud computing platform, while meeting Federal security requirements."
Appian Anywhere, operating on the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), is a complete BPM suite available in the cloud as an on-demand Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offering. It provides the reliability, security and speed of deployment required to support comprehensive process solutions via a subscription model.
"The combination of cloud computing and BPM supports the Administration's mandates for greater transparency, efficiency and collaboration within and across government agencies," said Matthew Calkins, President and CEO of Appian. "We are seeing increasing interest for our cloud solutions from government agencies, and this certification provides them assurance that we meet the stringent requirements for federal information systems."
