Matthew W. Calkins, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer

Matthew Calkins

Matthew Calkins has been the President, CEO, and Chairman of the Board since founding the company in 1999. Mr. Calkins also serves on the MicroStrategy (NASDAQ: MSTR) Board of Directors. He has a B.A. with honors in Economics from Dartmouth, and won that school's prize for top graduate in that field.

Michael Beckley, CTO

Michael Beckley

Michael Beckley, an industry visionary and pioneer in cloud, mobile, and social business process management technology, serves as Appian’s Chief Technology Officer and is a co-founder of the company. Mr. Beckley is responsible for guiding and evangelizing Appian’s BPM product vision, advancing BPM industry standards, and overseeing Appian’s Government Solutions Group including acquisition business management, HR, case management, and mobile workforce enablement. Prior to Appian, he was a Product Manager at business intelligence software firm MicroStrategy. Mr. Beckley is a graduate of Dartmouth College. Follow Michael on Twitter at @AppianCTO.

Samir Gulati, Vice President, Marketing

Samir Gulati

Samir Gulati is the Vice President of Marketing at Appian Corporation where he has successfully positioned Appian as an innovative leader in the BPM software market. Previously, Samir served as Vice President, Global Marketing for Pegasystems, a large publicly traded software company. Prior to that, he worked for 10 years at various divisions at General Electric and at Software AG, where he held several Product Management and Marketing leadership positions. Samir holds an MS degree in Computer Science from University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from University of Chicago.

Edward Hughes, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales

Edward Hughes

Edward Hughes has more than 25 years of proven success in driving software sales organizations to market leadership. Prior to joining Appian, Mr. Hughes served as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales at Pegasystems Inc. where he was responsible for doubling its size over the last 3 years. Prior to Pegasystems, Mr. Hughes served as Vice President of Sales for the Americas with IBM Software Group. Prior to joining IBM, Mr. Hughes served as Vice President of Sales in EMEA for Rational Software. Mr. Hughes started his career with Compuware Corporation where he rose to the position of Senior Vice President for Professional Services, overseeing a $1.2 Billion business.

Robert C. Kramer, Vice President, Technology

Bob Kramer

Bob Kramer is responsible for software development at Appian. He designed many early components of Appian's software and remains actively involved in all engineering and product design decisions. His background is in the design of scalable web applications and real-time analytical solutions for financial trading firms. Mr. Kramer is a founder of Appian and a member of Appian's Board of Directors.

Mark Lynch, Chief Financial Officer

Mark Lynch

Mark Lynch joined Appian in October 2008. He is responsible for overseeing all Appian financial activity. Prior to Appian, Mr. Lynch served as CFO at MicroStrategy, and prior to that as CFO at World Airways. In addition, he was Vice President of Finance at Intellidata. Mr. Lynch holds a BS degree in Accounting from The Pennsylvania State University and an MBA from The George Washington University. Mr. Lynch passed the Certified Public Accounting exam in his first seating in 1986.

Evan McDonnell, Vice President, Solutions

Evan McDonnell

Evan McDonnell is Appian's Vice President of Solutions, leading the company's development of BPM capabilities for specific industry needs. Evan has an extensive background in enterprise and SaaS software. He was most recently Vice President of Marketing at CodeRyte, a provider of automated medical coding software utilizing Natural Language Processing technology. Prior to that he was Vice President of Corporate Development at Progress Software, leading growth by acquisition including the $70M purchase of NEON Systems and the $88M purchase of DataDirect Technologies, where he was a member of the management team before joining Progress. Evan holds a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Marc Wilson, Vice President, Global Partnerships

Marc Wilson

Marc Wilson is a co-founder of Appian, and is responsible for managing the company's global partnership program across solution integrators, OEM partners, geographic partners and value-added solution providers. Marc has managed some of the largest and most sophisticated projects in the BPM industry, including the Army's well-known Army Knowledge Online (AKO) program, winner of the prestigious 2003 DCI Portal of the Year Award, and the "World's Largest Intranet" (according to Wired Magazine). Prior to Appian, he was a Senior Consultant at Boston Pacific Company, where he was responsible for creating and developing strategic plans for energy companies preparing for retail competition in the electricity industry. Marc received a B.A. in Government from Dartmouth College.

Garry Yeates, Vice President, Professional Services

Garry Yeates

Garry Yeates joined Appian in March 2008 and is responsible for all professional services leadership, including Appian's Expert Services and Center of Excellence offerings. Mr. Yeates has an extensive background in enterprise software services and consulting, having served as Managing Principal at CIGITAL, Inc., an enterprise software security consulting firm for the Fortune 1000, Director of Federal Business Development for Sapient, a leader in eBusiness transformation, and as a Vice President at James Martin and Company, a preeminent international Information Engineering consulting firm.
