A BPM suite is a technology platform for the design, documentation and capture of business processes.

There are four main phases of activity within a BPM Suite:

  1. Design Phase – document and capture processes in a modeling environment – create forms and UI for end users, define rules and define data
  2. Execution phase – execute processes in a run time process engine, integrate with systems, execute rules
  3. Manage phase – handle exceptions in the process, track status of process in real time, manage task workload, re-route process flows as needed
  4. Optimize phase – aggregate past performance, identify bottlenecks, create executive dashboards operational and business performance indicators

The BPM landscape has evolved to include recent technologies such as enterprise mobility and social collaboration as well as SOA.
