Appian Positioned in Business Process Management Suite Magic Quadrant Report From Leading Analyst Firm

Evaluation Based on Completeness of Vision and Ability to Execute

Vienna, VA., June 29, 2006 Appian, the leading provider of human-centric business process management suites (BPMS), today announced that it has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the visionaries — quadrant of the June 28, 2006 Magic Quadrant for Business Process Management Suites (BPMS), authored by Jim Sinur and Janelle B. Hill. The Magic Quadrant evaluates vendors based on their completeness of vision and ability to execute and positions them in one of the following quadrants: Leaders, Visionaries, Challengers or Niche Players.”Appian has demonstrated that our highly differentiated approach to BPM — delivering process, knowledge, and analytics functionality in a fully unified, web-based platform that is uniquely designed from the ground-up to ease the challenges of developing next-generation, process-centric business applications — is ideal for successful BPM suite implementations,” said Kevin Spurway, Vice President of Marketing at Appian. “Appian is honored to be positioned in the Visionaries Quadrant in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant report as we believe it validates Appian’s commitment to innovation in an ever-evolving market.”

Gartner describes BPMS as “a natural advancement to meet the growing requirements for greater degrees of process management maturity and agility.” Regarding the market potential for BPMS, the report goes on to state that “Gartner Dataquest now projects license revenue growth to be more than $1 billion by 2009, with a compound annual growth rate of 14 percent, making it the second-fastest growing software infrastructure market overall (security being No. 1).”

Appian continues to receive accolades for its BPM technology and business leadership, having been recently named to Intelligent Enterprise’s Editors Choice Awards as a Company to Watch, KM World’s 2006 “Top 100 Companies That Matter in Knowledge Management” list, and as a leader in the BPMS market by an independent research firm.
