Vienna, VA., April 19, 2007 – Appian, the leading provider of Business Process Management Suites (BPMS), today announced that it has appointed Samir Gulati, a respected BPM industry veteran, as Vice President of Marketing. In this role, Gulati will oversee Appian’s global market branding, positioning and awareness strategies. Gulati joins Appian with over 19 years of marketing and product management experience and has managed market leadership initiatives at companies, including Pegasystems, GE, SAGA Software and Apptix.”Samir Gulati is extremely well respected in the BPM and SaaS arenas, having previously created market categories and leadership for pioneers in these markets. We are excited to tap into his expertise as we see increased market demand for Appian’s next generation of innovative BPM solutions and services,” said Matt Calkins, CEO, Appian. “The top analyst firms, significant customers and industry experts are recognizing Appian and our award-winning technology and visionary leadership. I look forward to Samir leveraging Appian’s current success to create even greater market visibility and validation as we deliver our latest innovations, including Appian Anywhere, to the market.”

Gulati previously served as Vice President of Global Marketing for Pegasystems, a publicly-traded BPM vendor, where he successfully re-positioned the company as the leader in the rules-driven Business Process Management market by executing an aggressive Brand Leadership program. These activities resulted in the positioning of Pegasystems as a visionary leader in BPM with many leading Industry and Financial Analysts. Most recently, Gulati was Vice President of Marketing at Apptix, where he was responsible for positioning the company as a premiere provider of on-demand messaging and collaboration solutions for small and medium-sized businesses.

Previously, as Vice President of Worldwide Marketing at SAGA Software, a spin-off from Software AG, Gulati was responsible for setting the strategic direction for SAGA — including entry into new Markets, Technology Investments and Business Partner strategy and selection. He also led the successful global launch of SAGA’s new Enterprise Application Integration product suite — a key infrastructure technology for enabling integrated eBusiness.

“The executives at Appian have created a technology and company that are redefining the way enterprises implement and manage their Business Process Management solutions, and I am excited about the prospect of building on the foundation that they have created,” stated Samir Gulati, Vice President of Marketing at Appian. “As the only BPM solution to address both application-to-application and human-to-human interactions, Appian is delivering an unparalleled solution to the marketplace, and with the addition of the company’s on-demand solution, Appian Anywhere, the company is continuing to lead the industry in addressing customer needs.
