Appian Announces Major Enhancements to the Appian BPM Suite
Advances the State-of-the-Art for Integrating BPM with Data Management, Increases Application Performance and Eases Management and Migration
RESTON, Va.—August 23, 2010— Appian, the global innovator in enterprise and on-demand business process management (BPM) technology, today announced immediate availability of the latest release of the Appian BPM Suite. This architectural milestone extends Appian’s position as the leader in BPM technology innovation. The release significantly advances Appian customers’ ability to create process applications that seamlessly integrate their enterprise data and scale to handle extremely large process volumes and load.
Data Management and Integration
Industry analysts are urging enterprises to consider the inter-dependency of BPM and Master Data Management (MDM) initiatives. According to independent research firm Forrester Research, Inc.: “Savvy process leaders and process analysts understand the critical role that data plays in process execution – driving automated decisions, routing rules, and placing process in the proper context for end users.” (Forrester Research, Inc., “Warning: Don’t Assume Your Business Processes Use Master Data”, September, 2009).
In this latest release, Appian breaks new ground in the seamless integration of enterprise data into process applications. By supporting industry standards and best practices, Appian empowers business analysts and end-users to easily access and work with enterprise data sources without requiring SQL or complex coding. Specifically, feature benefits include:
- Data Store Integration
Data Administrators can now register their enterprise Data Stores with Appian and create simple object-oriented views for users to query and update data from their process application. Appian also adds an additional security layer to ensure tight controls over querying enterprise data.
- Business Designer Empowerment
Without knowledge of SQL or other complex coding languages, non-technical process designers and end-users can now create process applications that query and update enterprise data sources from the simple drag-and-drop Appian Process Modeler and Forms Designer.
- Master Data Management
Appian now makes it simple for designers to create processes that merge and consolidate multiple enterprise data sources to ensure data governance and quality or create process applications with expansive views of data across the enterprise.
- Data Definition Portability
Appian now makes enterprise data definitions a re-usable SOA component and part of the Appian Application Package profile, easing re-use and portability of process applications between disparate RDBMS platforms, on-premise and in cloud environments, or in the Appian Forum community.
Application Performance and Management
Appian has introduced significant enhancements to several areas of its process execution engine to drive higher levels of performance, and to enable scaling and load-balancing. The number of possible Appian Process Execution servers that can operate in parallel in a single environment has been increased by over five-fold, accommodating massive processing environments for the largest of enterprises. Enhanced process server management now allows administrators to better manage complex and integrated process applications by predicting future performance, planning system configurations based on past and expected usage, and quickly diagnosing system bottlenecks.
“Appian conducts product development under an agile methodology of rapid iterative releases, far out-pacing any other BPM vendor’s ability to quickly bring to market significant improvements in the power and ease-of-use of a BPM system,” said Matthew Calkins, president and CEO of Appian. “The latest release of the Appian platform demonstrates our on-going commitment to driving BPM industry innovation.”
Appian delivers an enterprise platform for digital transformation that enables organizations to reinvent the customer experience, optimize their business operations, and master governance, risk and compliance. Powered by industry leading Business Process Management (BPM) and Case Management capabilities, Appian’s low-code approach can radically accelerate the time it takes to build and deploy powerful, modern applications, on-premises or in the cloud.
